Celebration of Success

1100
family members and friends clapped and cheered for the 260
students honored at the annual North Orange County ROP
Celebration of Success student awards ceremony Friday, May
8, at the Heritage Forum Theater in Anaheim. The Career
Education Foundation gave more than $35,000 in awards and
scholarships to the career-technical education students, who
attend classes on 23 high school and three ROP campuses.

Five students from North Orange County ROP were
among the twenty recognized at the Orange County Department of
Education Friday, May 29, as outstanding and inspirational ROP
students.
North Orange County
ROP students honored at the event are Douglas De Roxas,
Culinary Arts, Adult ROP student of the Year, nominated by
Cindy Greer; Jose
Solano, Automotive Technician, Katella High School,
Automotive ROP Student of the Year, nominated by Joe Rolf;
Brianna Ruiz, Principles of Teaching and Learning, Magnolia
High School, High School ROP Student of the Year, nominated
by Sue Ramsey; Matthew Green, Legal and Law Enforcement and
Introduction to Forensics, El Dorado High School, ROP
Superstar, nominated by Sigrid Williams; and John Andaya,
Career Training for Transition, Rio Contiguo High School,
Inspirational ROP Student of the Year, nominated by Erika
Martinez.
Awards were funded by the Orange County Chapter
of the CAROCP (California Association of Regional Occupational
Centers and Programs) and presented by the four Orange County
ROP superintendents and senior director, and the chapter’s
officers. Before the ceremony, Orange County Superintendent of
Schools William Habermehl addressed the group.
Many thanks to Julie Dentler, chapter president, and members
Pedro Ibarra and Michelle Schirmers. Their planning and
hard work made the event possible.
