ROP Medical Science and LVN Students Take Top Honors at State Conference

North Orange County ROP Medical Science and LVN students were stopped at the airport as they tried to depart from Sacramento’s Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) State Leadership Conference.  They had so many gold, silver and bronze medals they just couldn’t get through the metal detector!

Students involved in the extra-curricular HOSA clubs at Savanna, Valencia, and Esperanza High Schools and Vocational Nurse programs did very well in the statewide competition that drew approximately 2,000 students to the state’s capitol.

Medalists will compete nationally in June at the HOSA Leadership Conference in Nashville, Tennessee

State conference results are listed below.

Many thanks to Donna Breed, Val Easton, Betty McPeak, Lupe Rodriguez, and Bridget Wulff, HOSA advisors, who go above and beyond, "WAY above and beyond," in preparing these students.

ROP Board Honors First Place ROP
Automotive Team Members

During their March meeting, the ROP Board of Trustees congratulated the first place team in the Orange County Automobile Dealers Association (OCADA) competition, Eric Argueta and Luis Loera, from Loara High School.  Shown above from left, Dr. Michael Worley, Superintendent, and Thomas "Hoagy" Holguin, Board President, present Eric Agueta with a certificate of honor from Assemblyman Curt Hagman. Below, Luis Loera accepts the Assembly certificate.

Kyle Baker and Yaham Palliyage placed third in the competition and also represented Loara High School.  Their instructor, Russ Bacarella, and James Williamson, whose Buena Park High School team placed sixth, thanked OCADA representatives for their support.

Sean Taylor, OCADA’s Member Services Manager, spoke briefly about how their association with ROP helps train automotive technicians.  OCADA and Hyundai provide cars and shop areas for the students to practice and also provide $1,000 scholarships for the students who qualified to be on teams. OCADA will sponsor a trip for the first place team and their instructor to the national competition in New York in April.
