State Senator Lou Correa visits Legal & Law Enforcement class
California State
Senator Lou Correa spent an hour August 1 in Dave Lopez’s ROP Legal and Law Enforcement class at Western High School in Anaheim
telling the students that law enforcement careers are “going to
explode” in the next decade.
He was asked many questions
about the state of the current budget and about his political
career. His final message to students was “Register to vote,
and vote. I don’t care who you vote for, just vote!”

North Orange County ROP Earns Highest Accreditation from Western
Association of Schools and Colleges
Anaheim, CA, June 5, 2007 – It’s official. North Orange
County ROP earned the highest accreditation possible – a
six-year accreditation with no interim visits -- from the
Western Association of Schools and Colleges. WASC is the
accrediting body for all public schools and colleges in the
western region of the United States.
What does accreditation mean to students? It means that:
-
credits earned in ROP courses will transfer to any U. S.
accredited high schools
-
community
colleges will continue to offer advanced placement and
credits to students who successfully complete agreed-upon
classes at North
Orange County ROP
-
ROP
can continue to work with universities to designate ROP
classes for ‘a - g’ credit.
What does accreditation mean in the professional education
arena? According to WASC, “accreditation
·
warrants
that the school is a trustworthy institution of learning
· validates
the integrity of a school’s program and student transcripts
· fosters
improvement of the school’s programs and operations to
support student learning
·
assures a
school community that the school’s purposes are appropriate
and being accomplished through a viable educational program
·
provides a
way to manage change through regular assessment, planning,
implementing, monitoring and reassessment
·
assists a
school/district in establishing its priority areas for
improvement as a result of the perpetual accreditation cycle
that includes
-
School self-assessment
of the current educational program for students
-
Insight and perspective
from the visiting committee
-
Regular school staff
assessment of progress through the intervening years
between full self-studies."
The WASC visiting team reviewed the self-study document, a
product of 18 months of research and self-reviews. They
also visited all ROP instructors in their classrooms and
observed their teaching.
The six-year accreditation comes as a result of not only
great leadership by Lynne Porter, Assistant Superintendent,
Educational Services, and the ROP self-study team, but also
because of the participation and hard work of all the staff
to reach the high standards expected at ROP.
The North Orange County ROP was founded in 1972, and was
accredited as an institution separate from its five
participating school districts first in 1977, a process that
began in 1974. Every six years since, it has earned the
highest accreditation possible. WASC can deny
accreditation, or may grant one-, two-, or three-year terms;
a six-year term with visit/progress report at three years,
and the highest, a six-year term without a visit.
