The Computerized Accounting program serves high school and adult students who meet age and grade level requirements. The course introduces and reinforces the principles and processes involved in double-entry accounting system. Included are the accounting cycle, including use of journals, ledgers, and worksheets; preparation of income statements and balance sheets; and specialized accounting functions, such as banking, petty cash, and payroll. The course covers accounting for service and merchandising businesses organized as a sole proprietorship, partnership, or corporation. Emphasis is placed on analysis of financial data and an expanded use of computers and calculators. Integrated throughout the course are career preparation standards, which include basic academic skills, communication, interpersonal skills, problem solving, safety, technology, and other employment skills.

Instruction includes lectures and discussions, demonstrations, individualized instruction, and hands-on work. Evaluation is competency-based. All students complete up to 400 hours of classroom instruction. Eligible students may train for up to 180 hours in community classroom or CVE sites.

Recommended Prerequisite:

Students should have successfully completed at least one semester of keyboarding or demonstrate an equivalent proficiency of 25 WPM.
