Emergency Medical
Technician
The ROP
EMT program meets the requirements of Title 22 of the California
Code of Regulations and the National Standard Curriculum for
certification as an EMT. The faculty is comprised of working
professional EMTs, paramedics, firefighters and nurses with
years of field-related experience.
Students who successfully complete the course are prepared to
render basic life support to patients in emergency conditions.
Included are patient assessment, advanced first aid, airway
management, medication administration, emergency childbirth, and
CPR.
Prerequisites: proof of high school diploma or GED, or
successful completion of Emergency Medical Responder, or proof
of equivalent medical experience and clear criminal background
investigation. CPR card should be obtained prior to clinical
rotations. CPR card must be an American Heart Association BLS
Healthcare provider card (no other accepted). Fee-based

Students
needing an AHA Healthcare Provider Card may sign
up for any of our
CPR classes
located at our EMT/CPR facility.
Students must be 18 years of age
to be eligible for the NREMT exam.
Students only have one year from the date of
their practical exam (held towards the end of
the semester) to take their NREMT exam.
As part of
instruction, this course reinforces skills in
reading, writing, speaking, listening, and
mathematics and requires their application in
workplace situations. Integrated throughout the
course are career preparation standards, which
include communication, ethics,
interpersonal/team skills, critical thinking and
problem solving, safety, technology, and other
employment skills. Students are given
opportunities to demonstrate personal qualities,
including responsibility, self-confidence, and
self-management
