Medical Core is
the prerequisite class for the following health sciences
courses: Nursing Assistant, Nursing Assistant Acute Care,
Medical Assistant, Computerized Medical Insurance Billing,
and Medical Insurance Coding. Medical core is recommended for
those who have been out of the field for five years.
The Medical Core class for
health occupations students includes body systems, standard precautions,
medical terminology, and CPR basics, presented with computer assisted
instruction. Emphasis on medical spelling, word pronunciation and
definition of terms provides the foundation for a medical vocabulary.
Computer-assisted practice is part of the course.
Integrated throughout
the course are career preparation standards, which include basic
academic skills, communication, interpersonal skills, problem
solving, safety, technology, and other employment skills.
Prerequisite: Pre-entrance
assessment, or approval by ROP administration is required to enroll
in Medical Core.
Students must take
this course prior to, or concurrent with, enrollment in health
occupations classes (other than EMT, LVN, and Pharmacy Technician).
