Medical Core is the prerequisite class for the following health sciences courses: Nursing Assistant, Nursing Assistant Acute Care, Medical Assistant, Computerized Medical Insurance Billing, and Medical Insurance Coding. Medical core is recommended for those who have been out of the field for five years.

The Medical Core class for health occupations students includes body systems, standard precautions, medical terminology, and CPR basics, presented with computer assisted instruction.  Emphasis on medical spelling, word pronunciation and definition of terms provides the foundation for a medical vocabulary.  Computer-assisted practice is part of the course.

Integrated throughout the course are career preparation standards, which include basic academic skills, communication, interpersonal skills, problem solving, safety, technology, and other employment skills.

Prerequisite: Pre-entrance assessment, or approval by ROP administration is required to enroll in Medical Core.

Students must take this course prior to, or concurrent with, enrollment in health occupations classes (other than EMT, LVN, and Pharmacy Technician).
