The
Pharmacy Technician course
will provide students the skills needed for reading and
transcribing doctors' orders, preparing unit dose
medications, performing pharmaceutical calculations
compounding of both sterile and non-sterile
preparations, and maintaining inventory control. The
students will also be able to identify commonly
prescribed drugs, their trade and generic names and drug
classification. The course is designed in modular format
and is competency based. integrated throughout the
course are career preparation standards, which include
basic academic skills, communication, interpersonal
skills, problem solving, safety, technology, and other
employment skills.
All students
will train for a maximum of 276 classroom and 124 lab
hours. Eligible students who, upon completion of the
course, register as pharmacy technicians may train for
up to 320 hours at a community classroom site. No more
than 120 hours may be completed in a community pharmacy
setting or in a single department of a hospital.
