The Retail Sales, Merchandising and Marketing course prepares students for entry-level employment in Retail Sales and Merchandising through classroom instruction and training at various community sites. Included are retail operations, sales and marketing, shipping, receiving, customer service, and visual display. Integrated throughout the course are career preparation standards, which include basic academic skills, communication, interpersonal skills, problem solving, safety, technology, and other employment skills.

Students Interested in Retail/Customer Service Training
In the community classroom (CC) methodology, eligible students receive unpaid on-the-job training in retail establishments. A student may train in any of the job specific areas or in a combination of areas.

In the cooperative vocational education (CVE) methodology, students practice and extend their basic skills in retail merchandising while working in a paid position at a retail establishment. In the classroom, they are taught advanced skills in retailing, preparing them for positions such as assistant manager, assistant buyer, commission sales, etc. A student may train in any of the job specific areas.

Each student receives up to 620 hours of instruction. Students receive 100 classroom hours and a maximum of 520 hours of unpaid (CC) and/or paid (CVE) training at an approved community site.

High School Elective Credits
Students can earn elective credits for their class and on-the-job training hours.  Credits are based on the total number of hours of class/on-the-job participation.
