INSTRUCTOR VACANCY:

Instructor – Entrepreneurship/Small Business

Monday – Friday 10:16 am to 12:09 pm; 10 hours/week

La Habra High School
 

BASIC FUNCTION:    

Following competency-based course outlines and using project-based learning techniques that integrate academics, teach high school students the basic entrepreneurial skills necessary to operate a small business.  Course content would include developing a business plan; completing paper work associated with starting a new business; choosing and maintaining an accounting system; developing a three-year marketing plan; preparing loan papers for presentation to a bank or small business administration; understanding legal requirements; estimating cash and resources needed to maintain profitability; understanding hiring practices; and an introduction to e-commerce. 

TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Develop and implement lessons to teach skills required for students to master competencies

·         Provide group and individual instruction utilizing effective teaching strategies, project-based learning, instructional aids and equipment

·         Evaluate students’ skills and job readiness competencies, and maintain accurate student records

·         Manage classroom in a manner conducive to learning

·         Work effectively as part of a team

·         Collaborate in planning process for modifications in curriculum

·         Assist students in developing an individualized learning plan to prepare for employment, advanced training, or career advancement

·         Participate actively in subject matter advisory committee

·         Accurately report student attendance in a timely manner

·         Keep abreast of current practices and training methods

·         Assist in recruitment and employment of students

·         Perform other duties as required

 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: 


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
 

a)       Extensive knowledge and experience in small business practices and entrepreneurship

b)       Microsoft Office, internet and accounting applications

c)       E-mail use and etiquette

d)       Knowledge of business and marketing plans

e)       Knowledge of methods and techniques of effective presentations

f)         Skilled in verbal communications

g)       Knowledge of teaching strategies, project-based learning and learning modalities  

h)       Ability to organize environment and instruction to facilitate learning

i)         Ability to write lesson plans for individual and group instruction

j)         Ability to integrate academics

k)       Ability to use diverse teaching strategies to meet students’ learning styles, abilities, interest, and cultural backgrounds

l)         Ability to follow ROP policy/procedure, including maintaining student and other required records

 

Experience/Training/Education: 

High school diploma required, AA or BA degree is desirable.  Must have a minimum of five years recent experience in the business/entrepreneurship field. Must possess or be eligible and willing to apply for a valid Designated Subjects Career Technical Education Teaching Credential authorizing service in the appropriate subject matter.  College degree in a related field may substitute for some employment experience.

 

SALARY RANGE:               Initial placement on salary schedule will be according to a combination of education and work experience ranging from $32.44 - $43.54 per hour

North Orange County ROP reviews the applications submitted on a timely basis to select an interview group of those candidates who appear to possess the most extensive and relevant experience or abilities for the position.  Not every candidate who meets the minimum qualifications is interviewed.  It is, therefore, important that the application be thorough, detailed and clear.  Current North Orange County ROP employees who are applying for a position should be aware that material from their personnel files will not automatically be included as part of the application packet, and then should, therefore, provide information on past and present employment in the same degree of detail as any other applicant.

Interviews are normally conducted between two days and two weeks following the deadline to apply.  Skills and job sample tests may be given as part of the interview process.  Applicants who have questions regarding the progress of a position may call the Human Resources Department at (714) 502-5800.
