ROP Medical Careers Mission

Our mission is to prepare students for:
  • A variety of medical careers
  • Successful transition to colleges and universities
  • Immediate employment
  • Industry certification
  • Career portfolio development and presentation
     

Requirements for Admission

  • Maintain a 2.0 GPA in all school subjects
  • Maintain excellent attendance and professional attitude
  • Participate in community service
  • Be at least 16 years of age and registered in a high school program

Student Leadership Opportunities

  • Join the North Orange County's prizewinning HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) teams!  The student health careers organizations have a national membership of over 60,000.
  • Job shadowing and internships are available

Good attendance and performance guarantee continued enrollment in the program.


Medical Careers Classes

Medical Assistant Front Office - Nine Weeks
Greet patients, schedule appointments, maintain records, complete insurance forms, and arrange patient lab tests.  Become eligible to sit for the CMA license exam administered by the State of California.

Medical Assistant Back Office - One or Two Semesters
Perform clinical duties, take vital signs, administer medications, perform EKGs, draw blood and perform other duties.

Medical Insurance Billing - One Semester
Perform billing services in a medical facility.  Process forms for reimbursement, submit electronic claims, and use medical computer software.

Medical Insurance Coding - One Semester
Perform insurance coding at hospitals and medical offices, using official coding and reporting procedures. Earn the following certifications:

  • CPC (Certified Procedural Coder)
  • CPC-H (Certified Procedural Coder-Hospital)
  • CCS (Certified Coding Specialist

    Medical Careers 1 is open to high school students in grades 11 and 12 or any Savanna HS students who have completed biology or health.
