Course
Description:
The Aquatic/Marine Diving Occupations (A/MDO) course provides
training in the aquatic and diving fields from beginning to
instructor level certifications. Areas of instruction
include water safety, lifeguard training, swimming instructor,
first aid, basic diving skills, advanced diving skills,
leadership diving skills and scuba instructor skills.
Students train in the classroom, confined water and open water
environments. Students will use equipment that is commonly
used in the industry.
As part of
instruction, this course reinforces skills in reading, writing,
speaking, listening, and mathematics and requires their
application in workplace situations. Integrated throughout the
course are career preparation standards, which include
communication, ethics, interpersonal/team skills, critical
thinking and problem solving, safety, technology, and other
employment skills. Students are given opportunities to
demonstrate personal qualities, including responsibility,
self-confidence, and self-management.
Students may train
for a maximum of 1558 hours inclusive.
Basic Marine Diving
provides students with classroom,
confined-water, and open-water training in the fundamentals of
scuba diving. Community Water Safety training and CPR for
the Professional Rescuer are also included.
Prerequisites:
Students will be required to complete a medical history form and
pass a swim test. Ocean field trips require instructor's
permission.
