The
annual North Orange County ROP
Celebration of Success, an awards ceremony honoring and supporting student
acheivement, was held Tuesday, May 15, at the City National Grove of
Anaheim. Two-hundred and eighty-nine North
Orange County ROP students received recognition and a remarkable
total of $40,000 in monetary
awards. In addition to specific
awards, every student nominee at the “Celebration of Success”
ceremony received cash prizes ($50 to each senior and adult nominee,
and $25 to 10th and 11th grade student nominees. The money was
donated by staff and other individuals, as well as Altrusa
International, Inc. of Anaheim, Anaheim Community Foundation,
Cypress Woman’s Club, the Mary E. Moore Family Foundation; and
SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union.
ROP students on each campus were selected by a panel of
business people and school personnel as the ‘ROP Star Student’
representing their home campus. Students interviewed with
business people and foundation family members to win the following
awards: Excellence in Career Pathways, Ray Gerace Memorial
Scholarship Award for Leadership; Dewey Family Award for Personal
Growth, Altrusa International of Anaheim, Inc. award for excellence
in non-traditional careers and for re-entry women: and the Mary E.
Moore Award for excellence in spite of extreme obstacles.
Additionally, Cypress Woman’s Club donated $500 to be split between
the Cypress and Kennedy Students of the Year. The Anaheim Community
Foundation funded the Student of the Year Awards in the City of
Anaheim.
