descriptions
Accounting Occupations—If
you earn money, you’ll want to keep track of it, and
accounting shows you easy ways to do that. You’ll learn how
to prepare income statements and balance sheets. You’ll also
have the opportunity to learn software such as Excel, Word,
QuickBooks Pro and Peachtree Accounting. The class prepares
students for entry-level employment in office settings and
advanced training. Cerritos, Fullerton, and Westwood
Colleges grant advanced placement and/or credits to students
who complete the course with a grade of A or B.
Introduction to Automotive Technology—If you love cars, you’ll want to learn all the basic
automotive systems, from brakes and their components to the
electrical system and its parts. In this class you’ll learn
how to change fluids, perform a safety inspection and
document service needs. By the end of the class you’ll be
able to disassemble, inspect and service drum and disc
brakes and adjust brake fluids and learn what every
component in the car does.
Automotive Technology—As
an advanced student, you’ll learn servicing procedures, how
to identify component parts, diagnose faults, replace parts,
and rebuilding, repair, and adjustment procedures. The
course prepares you for advanced training and for further
technical education.
Business Technology—You
will learn to type, organize paperwork, compose business
letters, build databases to output spreadsheets, and create
PowerPoint slide presentations, all using industry-standard
software. The class prepares students for entry-level
employment in office settings and advanced training. Skills
learned here prepare you for entry-level office jobs and
meet the FJUHSD computer proficiency standards.
Forensic Science/Crime Scene Investigation (Introduction)—You
will learn the basics of crime scene evidence collection and
investigation, crime scene photography, and diagramming a
crime scene. You’ll learn who to interview and what
questions to ask. You’ll sharpen your reasoning skills,
your observation skills, and your knowledge of forensic
science. This class prepares students for entry-level
employment and college studies in the field.
Legal and Law Enforcement—You
will gain an understanding of what substance abuse does to
the body and mind; criminal, traffic and juvenile law,
judicial proceedings, and emergency preparedness. The class
emphasizes the importance of safety, effective
communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills as
well as professional development. You may have the
opportunity to participate in field trips to justice
institutions and "ride-alongs" with police officers. The
class prepares you for advanced training.
Stagecraft Technology—You
will learn to create and design scenery, props, lighting and
sound for theatrical productions. Scene construction
involves using carpentry, props and paint to bring a
production to life. Lighting design sets the visual mood,
and sound design makes sure the audience hears what the
production author and director want them to hear. You’ll
also learn to operate a variety of production equipment,
including construction tools and equipment, mixing boards,
microphones, rigging and curtain equipment; and lights,
spotlights, border light and fixtures; and create and plan
production schedules. .
Retail Careers/General Merchandising (paid and unpaid
community learning)—Love
retail? Shopping at the mall? Learn marketing, inventory
control, cashiering, stocking, customer service and more in
the classroom and on the job. Earn credits for hours on the
job during the class. This after-school class for
high school students only prepares you
for entry-level and above retail jobs and further education.
Visual Communications—If
you agree with the quote “A picture is worth a thousand
words,” you’ll want to take this class. You’ll learn the
fine art of communicating visually, using art and graphic
design concepts, elements and principals of design, color
theory, and typography in your projects. This class is a-g
college credit certified. Students who successfully complete
this two-semester course can earn one year of UC-approved
fine arts credit.
