assistance with job placement. Career guidance specialists may
assist you with career interest surveys, aptitude testing, career
research, career information, and career goals. Credits apply to
high school graduation, as determined by the participating district.
The number of credits are determined by the student’s hours of
program attendance and active participation.

Descriptions
Art in Animation—If
you’re serious about a career in the commercial
art/animation world, take this class! This 3-D computer
animation, 2-D graphics and animation, traditional media,
and design course includes design, rendering and animation
using Maya software. The course also includes the history
and mechanics of animation. Students who successfully
complete this two-semester course can earn one year of UC-approved
fine arts credit.
Computer Graphics and Design—You
will learn design and layout, desktop computer operations,
and graphic software such as Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign, and print production preparation. This class gets
you ready for entry-level employment in such positions as
layout artist, graphic artist, desktop publisher and
production artist. Students in grades 9-12 may enroll.
This class will prepare you for industry employment and for
advanced training.
Introduction to Culinary Arts—If
you love to cook or want to learn, this introductory class will give you
more than the basics. You’ll learn garde manger (the art of
fruit and vegetable carving, or how to turn a pumpkin into a
coach); basic cooking, and some
international cooking. You’ll also learn safety and
sanitation, nutrition basics, and food service operations.
The class will prepare you for entry-level jobs and advanced
training.
Fire Technology, Introduction to—You’ll
learn about firefighting tactics, fire safety, handling
hazardous materials, firefighting tools and equipment.
You’ll also learn about firefighting and related occupations
and the qualifications and requirements for the field. The
class prepares you for advanced training.
Legal and Law Enforcement—You’ll
gain an understanding of what substance abuse does to the
body and mind. You will also learn about criminal law,
traffic and juvenile law, judicial proceedings, and
emergency preparedness. Successful students will have the
opportunity to participate in field trips to justice
institutions and "ride-alongs" with police officers. The
class prepares you for advanced training.
Medical Careers Academy: Academic Studies/Career Planning in
Medical Sciences—Explore
the many health science careers found in hospitals,
community health centers and clinics. You’ll identify roles
and responsibilities of health care providers and study
health, safety, nutrition, body systems, human growth and
development, communicable and chronic diseases, medical
terminology and abbreviations, legal/ethical topics, and
socioeconomic issues in health care. The class prepares you
for advanced training. This class is for ninth grade
students only.
Medical Careers Academy: Medical Careers I—You’ll
learn how to take vital signs, understand basic medical
terminology, body mechanics, and body systems; and you’ll
learn how to practice safety and infection control. You
will identify roles and responsibilities of a wide variety
of health care professionals, ethical standards required of
health care providers, and socio-economic factors involved
in health care. The class prepares you for further study in
health care professions.
Retail Careers/General Merchandising CC/CVE—Learn on the job
in local retail outlets while earning graduation credits.
This course prepares students for entry-level employment in
retail careers through classroom instruction and on-the-job
training. You'll learn sales and marketing, security,
shipping, receiving, customer service, visual display and
inventory control. The course also prepares you for advanced
business studies.
After-school class for high school students only
You'll learn
about the workplace from experts while earning elective
credits and preparing for a great job. This a great
