Guidance
Your on-campus counselor or career guidance specialist (CGS) can
help you with ROP program selection, completion of registration, and
assistance with job placement. Career guidance specialists may
assist you with career interest surveys, aptitude testing, career
research, career information, and career goals. Credits apply to
high school graduation, as determined by the participating district.
The number of credits are determined by the student’s hours of
program attendance and active participation.

Class
offerings are subject to change each semester.
Introduction to Automotive Technology—If
you love cars, you’ll want to learn all the basic automotive
systems, from brakes and their components to the electrical
system and its parts. In this class you’ll learn how to
change fluids, perform safety inspections, and document
service needs. By the end of the class you’ll be able to
disassemble, inspect and service drum and disc brakes and
adjust brake fluids and learn what every component in the
car does
Automotive Technology—In
this advanced class, you’ll learn to use diagnostic
equipment to find operational faults, document the faults,
and repair them. You’ll learn to perform service and repair
on a variety of steering systems; align wheels and diagnose
problems based on tire wear patterns; repair tires, diagnose
and repair all types of brake systems and refinish brake
drums; understand, diagnose and repair electrical systems
malfunctions; perform battery service; repair or replace
ignition systems and all lights on the car; understand and
repair mechanical engine functions, computerized functions
and fuel systems, and repair driveline components and
systems, and much, much more..
Careers with
Children: Preschool Lab—Are you patient, inventive, creative and organized? If not, you
will learn to be in this real-world setting. You will learn to
recognize developmental markers in children ages 2 ˝ to 5 in the
preschool lab. You'll learn teaching methods that work to help
little children learn and love to learn in a happy, structured
environment. This class prepares students for advanced training
and for working with young children in preschool and home
settings. Cypress and Orange Coast College give advanced placement and/or
credits to students who complete the course with
grades of A or B. See your instructor for details
Computer
Graphics and Design—You will learn design and
layout, desktop computer operations, print production
preparation. You'll create projects using Adobe graphics software such
as Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign. This class gets you ready for entry-level
employment in such positions as layout artist, graphic artist,
desktop publisher and production artist. Students in grades 9-12
may enroll. This class will prepare you for industry employment
and for advanced training.
Construction
Occupations—If you
enjoy working with your hands this class just might be the
thing for you. In addition to learning
carpentry/construction skills, you'll also learn all the
safety skills you'll need, and how to use and care for power
and hand tools. You will be prepared for jobs in
carpentry, for the construction trades, and for further
education in building trades programs.
Building
Industry Technology Academy—The
BITA Academy is a four-year, hands-on program. You’ll learn how to use hand and power tools
safely, read blueprints, measure and specify materials, and
build projects from the ground up. You may participate
in contests and community events such as Paint Your Heart
Out, or Habitat for Humanity. The four-year program
will prepare you for advanced training, jobs, or
apprenticeships
Introduction to Forensic
Science/Crime Scene Investigation—Students will study theory and gain experience in the skills
needed by crime scene investigators. They will learn the basics
of crime scene evidence collection and investigation, crime
scene photography, and diagramming a crime scene. This
introduces students to the career and prepares them for college
studies in law enforcement.
Legal and Law
Enforcement—Students will learn about institutions and agencies within the
justice system; criminal, traffic, and juvenile law; judicial
proceedings; substance abuse laws; and emergency preparedness. Students will participate in a ride-along with a police officer
and will take various field trips to legal institutions.
Visual Communications—You will experience concepts of
art and graphic design, elements and principals of design, color
theory, and typography through projects, research, analysis and
the creative process. This class is A-G college credit
certified. Students who successfully complete this two- semester
course can earn one year of UC-approved fine arts credit. Students in grades 10-12 may enroll.

about the workplace from experts while earning elective
credits and preparing for a great job. This a great
