High School Student
Guidance
Your on-campus counselor or career guidance specialist (CGS) can
help you with ROP program selection, completion of registration, and
assistance with job placement. Career guidance specialists may
assist you with career interest surveys, aptitude testing, career
research, career information, and career goals. Credits apply to
high school graduation, as determined by the participating district.
The number of credits are determined by the student’s hours of
program attendance and active participation.

The following ROP classes are for La Habra High School students.
Accounting
Occupations/Personal Finance—If
math is your favorite subject and you love to work in an office environment,
this class may open your eyes to a great career. You’ll learn about the
accounting cycle and use of a manual double-entry accounting system as well
as use of journals, ledgers and worksheets. You will prepare income
statements and balance sheets. You’ll also have the opportunity to learn the
latest software. The class prepares students for entry-level employment in
office settings and advanced training. Earn advanced placement or credits
at community college.
Automotive Technology, Introduction to—If you love cars, you’ll want to learn all the basic
automotive systems, from brakes and their components to the
electrical system and its parts. In this class you’ll learn
how to change fluids, perform safety inspections, and
document service needs. By the end of the class you’ll be
able to disassemble, inspect and service drum and disc
brakes and adjust brake fluids and learn what every
component in the car does.
Business
Technology—You
will learn to organize paperwork, compose business letters, build databases
that will output spreadsheets, and create PowerPoint slide presentations
You will have the opportunity to learn beginning to advanced keyboarding and
Microsoft XP© software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Internet
search techniques. The class prepares you for entry-level employment in
office settings and advanced training.
After-school class is for All high school students.
Careers With
Children: CC/CVE—Want
to be a teacher or child psychologist? You’ll learn how to work with
preschoolers to school-aged children in the classroom and in a school
setting. If you are employed in a preschool or after-school program
already, you may be able to earn elective credits for your work experience.
Students are preparing for entry-level jobs and advanced training.
Computer
Graphics and Design—Paint,
inks, brushes and computer software are all tools in the contemporary
artist’s box. You’ll use Adobe graphics software such as Illustrator,
Photoshop and InDesign to complete projects, and you will also learn about print production preparation. This class gets you ready for
entry-level employment in such positions as layout artist, graphic artist,
desktop publisher and production artist, as well as for advanced education.
Introduction to Culinary Arts—If
you love to cook or want to learn, this introductory class will give you
more than the basics. You’ll learn garde manger (the art of
fruit and vegetable carving, or how to turn a pumpkin into a
coach); basic cooking, and some
international cooking. You’ll also learn safety and
sanitation, nutrition basics, and food service operations.
The class will prepare you for entry-level jobs and advanced
training.
Graphic
Communications and Print Technology—If
you love to be active, have an artistic side and love variety in your work,
this class may be for you. Using MacIntosh computers, you will design and
prepare art and text for printing on offset duplicators. You’ll use silk
screen printing for t-shirts and other applications, too. The class
prepares you for entry-level jobs and advanced training. Earn advanced
placement and credits at Fullerton College.
Legal and Law
Enforcement—You
will gain an understanding of what substance abuse does to the body and
mind; criminal, traffic and juvenile law, judicial proceedings, and
emergency preparedness. Successful students will have the opportunity to
participate in field trips to justice institutions and "ride-alongs" with
police officers. The class prepares students for advanced training.
Visual
Communications—If you agree with the quote “A picture is worth a
thousand words,” you’ll want to take this class. You’ll learn the fine art
of communicating visually, using art and graphic design concepts, elements
and principals of design, color theory, and typography in your projects.
This class is a-g college credit certified. Students who successfully
complete this two-semester course can earn one year of UC-approved fine arts
credit.
