High School Student Guidance

Your on-campus counselor or career guidance specialist (CGS) can help you with ROP program selection, completion of registration, and assistance with job placement. Career guidance specialists may assist you with career interest surveys, aptitude testing, career research, career information, and career goals. Credits apply to high school graduation, as determined by the participating district. The number of credits are determined by the student’s hours of program attendance and active participation.

Take advantage of career exploration opportunities!

Career Training for Transition—If you are already working, you can earn graduation credits for up to 15 hours per week of on-the-job time.  You will learn career planning, interviewing techniques, resume writing and strategies for personal success on the job.  You will create a career portfolio that will help you in your transition from school to work (La Vista HS).

Computer Graphics and Design—Paint, inks, brushes and computer software are all tools in the contemporary artist’s box.  You’ll learn graphic software such as Illustrator, PhotoShop, InDesign and print production preparation.  This class gets you ready for entry-level employment in such positions as layout artist, graphic artist, desktop publisher and production artist, as well as for advanced education.

 Forensic Science/Crime Scene Investigation (Introduction to)—You will study theory and gain experience in the skills needed by crime scene investigators in collecting evidence and preserving a crime scene.  You will learn the basics of evidence collection and investigation, crime scene photography, and diagramming a crime scene.  You’ll learn how to create a suspect list and learn which questions to ask suspects. You are preparing for college studies in law enforcement.

Legal and Law Enforcement—You will institutions and agencies within the justice system; criminal, traffic and juvenile law; substance abuse law; judicial proceedings and emergency preparedness.  The class emphasizes the importance of safety, effective communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills as well as professional development.  You may have the opportunity to participate in field trips to justice institutions and ride-alongs with police officers.  The class prepares you for advanced training.
